Hosting a Southern-Inspired Bridal Shower at Cardinal Cove
When it comes to hosting a bridal shower, there’s something about the warm and welcoming spirit of the South that makes these celebrations extra special. Cardinal Cove is perfect for hosting just such a celebration. The home and yards are steeped in southern charm with just the right touch of elegance mixed with a relaxing setting. Whether you’re a Southern belle yourself or just drawn to the timeless charm of Southern hospitality, hosting a bridal shower at Cardinal Cove’s South Georgia country location is a wonderful way to celebrate the bride-to-be. Here’s a guide to creating the perfect Southern-inspired bridal shower that will leave everyone talking for years to come!
1. Set the Scene with Southern Elegance
A Southern bridal shower at Cardinal Cove exudes a delightful charm, enveloping guests in a warm and cozy atmosphere. Consider using an array of soft pastels, accompanied by an abundance of beautiful flowers and lush greenery. You have the creative freedom at Cardinal Cove to design a traditional garden party out by the pond or under the pergola in the patio area. Complete the scene with elegant touches, or infuse rustic elements, such as charming mason jars and delicate lace tablecloths, for a unique and memorable experience. You also have the option for a more formal feel in the stately dining room with over flow into the great room and onto the spacious porch.
Venue Ideas:
Backyard Garden: If the weather is nice, hosting the bridal shower in the beautiful backyard can be perfect. Southern summers at Cardinal Cove are made for sweet tea on the porch, or set up tables under shady trees and drape fairy lights across the outdoor space for an enchanting evening.
Barn: For a charming rustic twist, the 100+ year old tobacco barn, complete with its original and beautifully weathered wood timbers, could serve as the centerpiece of your festivities. Fill the inviting space with an array of colorful wildflowers, refreshing drinks, and an assortment of delightful finger foods, then set tables in the lush yard to create a fun and laid-back experience for your guests. This captivating atmosphere will surely make the occasion memorable for everyone involved.
Inside the home : For a more traditional Southern affair, consider hosting your gathering inside the heartbeat of Cardinal Cove, the home. The formal dining room with its brass chandelier and beautiful table that seats 10 can be set with some of our mother’s tableware or bring your own! The great room table can seat 8 and tables can be set up in the great room to accommodate as many as 32 inside the house. Tables and chairs can be arraigned on the inviting back porch as well to accommodate another 32.

2. Southern-Inspired Food & Drink
Now to the food! Southern cuisine is known for its bold flavors and comfort food, and this can easily be incorporated into your bridal shower menu. Offer guests a variety of dishes that will fill the room with mouthwatering aromas and satisfy every craving. We welcome caterers at Cardinal Cove or choose to do your own cooking in our well appointed kitchen with spacious countertops for serving your guests.
Food Ideas:
Mini Chicken and Waffles: A Southern classic, these bite-sized delights are both savory and sweet and make a fun appetizer or main course.
Shrimp and Grits: Nothing says Southern hospitality like shrimp and grits, whether served as a main course or as an appetizer.
Deviled Eggs: A Southern staple that always goes down a treat, deviled eggs are a must-have for any bridal shower.
Biscuits with Jam: Fluffy biscuits with a selection of sweet jams or honey make a great side dish or light bite for guests to enjoy.
Pecan Pie Bites & Red Velvet Cupcakes: For dessert, serve mini pecan pies or red velvet cupcakes topped with cream cheese frosting to satisfy guests’ sweet tooth.
Drink Ideas:
Sweet Tea: You can’t have a Southern bridal shower without the iconic sweet tea. Serve it in mason jars with cute paper straws for added charm.
Mint Juleps or Lemonade: Mint juleps offer a Southern twist to your cocktail offerings, or if you want a non-alcoholic option, serve homemade lemonade for a refreshing drink.
Southern Punch: Create a fun signature drink by mixing together fruit juices, lemon, and soda with a splash of bourbon or rum for that Southern punch.
3. Games with a Southern Twist
While bridal shower games are always a crowd-pleaser, consider adding a few Southern-inspired twists to keep your guests entertained.
“He Said, She Said” Southern Style: The classic game of “He Said, She Said” gets a Southern makeover with questions about the bride and groom, but with a twist—add in fun Southern phrases or sayings. For example, “Who’s more likely to say ‘y’all’ first in a conversation?” or “Who’s more likely to add extra butter to their grits?”
Monogramming Contest: As a nod to Southern traditions, have guests compete to see who can create the most beautiful or unique monogram for the bride-to-be using fabric markers, and later, these creations can be displayed at the shower as keepsakes.
4. Southern-Style Invitations & Decor
From the moment guests receive their invitations to a Cardinal Cove shower, they should feel the Southern charm. Use delicate calligraphy on invitations featuring floral or gingham designs. For a more rustic touch, burlap and lace can be used to frame the invites.
For decorations, you can embrace both rustic elegance and vintage glam. Place mason jars filled with wildflowers on every table, hang a wreath of greenery and white florals, and incorporate plenty of lace and gingham patterns throughout the venue. We have a variety of vases for use if you have a creative feel for arranging beautiful bouquets.
Decor Tips:
Mason Jar Centerpieces: Fill mason jars with wildflowers, lilies, or sunflowers for a charming centerpiece that captures the heart of the South. Don’t purchase those though, we have a nice collection of mason jars in various sizes!
Lace & Burlap Accents: Incorporate lace table runners or burlap napkin holders for a rustic yet elegant vibe. Mixing and matching napkin rings can be a fun way to elevate the decor! Our mother had a vast collection of beautiful napkin rings we would love to see out on tables again!
Southern Quotes: Display famous Southern sayings, such as "Bless your heart" or "A good Southern girl knows how to cook" as part of the decor to add a personal touch.
5. Give a Southern-Inspired Favor
When guests leave the bridal shower, send them home with a little piece of Southern hospitality. Favors can range from delicious homemade treats to thoughtful keepsakes that reflect the Southern charm of the day.
Favor Ideas:
Mini Jars of Jam or Honey: A jar of homemade jam or Southern honey wrapped in a cute gingham ribbon makes a sweet, thoughtful favor.
Monogrammed Towels or Napkins: Personalized items like hand towels or napkins with the bride’s initials are a wonderful gift.
Pecan Candies: Packaged pecan pralines or candied pecans can be a delicious, signature Southern treat.
Mini Potted Plants: Plant a little piece of Southern garden charm by giving each guest a small potted plant or succulent, which they can take home and grow.
